Playlist for 8-19-2014 WFCF - Black & Blue Show!!

(photograph - Francis Wolff)

This week's theme is "Black & Blue"! All song titles have the word 'black' or 'blue' in them. We hit up most of the 'black' songs in my library last week, but I saved a few for this show. For the 'blue' songs I tried to stay away from titles like "Blues for Alice", so we wouldn't have a whole show of 12 bar heads. Plenty of interesting material - can't wait to spin it! Tune in Tuesday August 19 from 3-7pm eastern. Listen online here.  See you then! - KendoCome say "hi" on Twitter!

Playlist for 2-25-2014 WFCF - Female Vocalists vs. Godzilla!

See anyone you like? Clockwise from top left: Diana Krall, Anita O'Day, Carmen McRae, Lena Horne, Diana Reeves, Valerie Gillespie, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Godzilla, Julie London, Jane Monheit, Marlena Shaw, Sybil Gage.

It's here! The sequel to last July's thriller "Attack of the Female Vocalists". Old favorites and new superstars, classic tracks and hidden diamonds... quite a few albums added to my own collection for this event, and still more from the WFCF library being played for the first time on this show. Warning: Godzilla will be vocalizing! However, his antics will be represented by instrumental performances of towering giants of jazz. Two vocal numbers for every one instrumental; odds are on the gals! Tune in Tuesday February 25th for the mayhem and melody, scatting, warbling, cooing, wailing and destruction! Hear it happen live on iHeart for free by clicking here. 3-7pm Eastern. See you then! - Kendo

"Luna y Venus" - Tore Bellis
Exposure blending of two shots of the Moon and Venus, taken 27 Feb 2009
Visit the artist's website!

This weeks show was the first of two space-themed shows for August: "Heavenly Bodies". We started off innocently enough with fun jazz about moon & stars . At 4pm the spacier jazz began as we launched out on a 2 hour voyage; starting at the Sun, then outward, visiting most of the planets in our Solar System, and then beyond! At 6pm we headed "back to earth". We delved a bit into the new jazz shelf; including "Vigil" from the spaciest of jazz trekkers, Chick Corea! Thanks for tuning in, phoning in, checking in and keeping me company! - Kendo
