Kendo's Top 55 Jazz Tracks for 2016

It's Halloween! Time for my fourth annual list of the Top 55 Jazz Tracks; covering the last 12 months (Oct 2015 - Oct 2016). Selecting tracks was much more difficult since I became jazz director at WFCF St. Augustine, simply because I get exposed to way more music; and so many highly enjoyable
Show time - my favorite day of the week!
releases came out this year!

Be aware it's a highly personal list, and does not reflect airplay tallies at WFCF. Music was chosen for the following: memorability, originality, interpretation/arrangement, execution or for just being plain good radio!
(Links for titles go to the selection at Amazon.com, when available.)

To hear a countdown of many of these tracks, tune in Tuesday Nov 1st to WFCF on iHeart from 3-5pm eastern, and resuming from 5:15-7pm eastern by clicking here.

Also - below the main list are my choices for Top 12 Jazz Albums of 2016. These were selected for their through and through listenability and enjoyment. So much good music came out this year! Hope you enjoy the lists and thanks so much for stopping by. - Kendo

Playlist for 11-5-2013 WFCF - Jazz Greats!

"Koi Fish" - Drax242
painting
Visit the artist's website!

Lots of special things happening on this week's show. We'll hear 4 tracks from Dave Brubeck's "Time In" album, the particularly fine, final installment of the "Time" series from the 60's; where Dave, in particular, really means business! In addition, we'll hear a lengthy track from Chuck Owen's fascinating new cd "River Runs", a concerto for jazz guitar, saxophone & orchestra. And for the last hour of the show, we'll hear randomly chosen selections from random Facebook friends, from my recent  Top 55 Jazz Tracks for 2013 list. They each picked a number without knowing what it was for. The resulting playlist (and the way it fit the station's time formatting) is nothing short of execptional, especially that last selection! We all know Who made the set work out so well ;) ~ Tune in for all this & more plus new jazz releases. Listen locally at 88.5Fm or tune in for free anywhere in the States via iHeart by clicking here!
