Extra shows this month!

Ron Carter - photo by Takehiko Tokiwa

Summertime means vacation for a few of the other jazz jocks at WFCF. Since I happen to think FL is already a paradise, the ideal getaway for me is more time on the air sharing awesome jazz! This month I'll be doing 2 extra shows; a Thursday and a Monday.

Thursday August 15th: a four-hour program from 3-7 that will feature some of the best jazz I've heard this summer, that didn't fit into any of the themed shows. Artists like Bill Frissell, Miroslav Vitous, Ron Carter, Rob Denty, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band and the T.S. Monk album I'm enjoying as I type! We'll also set aside at least one hour for all the excellent new jazz that's come into the station.

Monday August 19th: a two-hour program from 3-5. Not sure what I'll play yet, but I'm thinking about featuring the transitional collection "Blue Haze" by Miles Davis, featuring pre & post addiction sessions.

Tuesday shows will remain intact (3-7pm) and continue to be themed for the duration of summer. Upcoming themes: Night, Time, Dreams, Streetlife, Far Away Places, and Trains! Join me for any or all and tell some jazz friends where the "Jazz Greats" are at! Listen online by clicking here. See you then! - Kendo

Go-To Album 2

Spaces - Larry Coryell

Some personnel shared with Go-To Album 1 - namely Corea and McLaughlin, who once again only play on a few tracks together - "Chris" on the original album, and "Tyrone" on the Planet End album from the same recording sessions.

I won't even try describing the sounds on this album - it is for many, including myself, everything a fusion album should be, with none of the trappings. No overindulgence, no self-importance - just some seriously well thought out and executed music that seems to flow effortlessly and liberally, in spite of the prowess shown by all. Once you've heard it and gotten to know it - you'll be spoiled and want to find a whole bunch more albums just like it; but there are nearly none, making it all the more precious.
