Cool label from short-lived LA jazz label from 1975-1977

This week we delved into a handful of releases covering a broad range of jazz: the strong compositions and killer line-up on Duke Pearson's "Sweet Honey Bee". the dated swing (complete with accordian) of forgotten jazz guitarist Joe Puma on "Wild Kitten", all but one track of the fantastic compilation "Spring Jazz" from Joel Dorn's 32 Jazz label, a fun pairing of saxes with Sonny Stitt/Red Holloway's "Forecast: Sonny and Red" and finally the Hank Mobley lineup of the Miles Davis Quintet in pristine sound (the vinyl master is so much better than the cd) "In Person: Saturday Night at the Blackhawk Vol 2". Plenty of new jazz also! Thanks for stopping by and to all who tuned in! - Kendo

Kendo's Digital Deal of the Week:
Clark Terry & Bob Brookmeyer "The Power of Positive Swinging"

About 45 minutes of fun, uplifting and superbly executed jazz between these two gentleman who clearly inspire each other. An added attraction is the unique, quirky style of pianist Roger Kellaway. 9 tracks of great compositions... frequently played on the show are "Hawg Jawz" & "Green Stamps" where Clark Terry cleverly trades fours with himself.

Kendo's CD Deal of the Week:
Gary Burton & Keith Jarrett/Throb

Over 70 minutes of jazz-rock that unravels more with each listen. you actually get two albums on this version - the 1970 collab between Gary and Keith filled with lengthier jams of Jarrett's like "Grow Your Own" and a great version of Steve Swallow's "Como en Vietnam". The other album "Throb" was recorded a year earlier and features Jerry Hahn on guitar and Richard Green on Violin. Frequently heard on the show are Michael Gibbs "Triple Portrait" and Steve Swallow's "Doin' the Pig".
